From Pharmacy to Homeopathy: A Journey to Discovering True Longevity
Years ago, as a newly qualified young pharmacist, I understood being healthy to mean having laboratory test results within the expected ranges, maintaining an ideal weight, not becoming ill and, if illness did occur, taking the necessary medication to reduce a fever, treat an infection or manage the symptoms of a chronic condition.
After spending thousands of hours behind the pharmacy counter, my patients gradually became part of my life. I shared their worries and celebrated their happiness. When I could no longer see them merely as blood test results, prescriptions and medications, I began asking myself the same question:
Why do so many people—including me—come to me holding test results that say, “Everything is normal,” yet still do not feel well?
It was around this time that I discovered homeopathy. Of course, I resisted it at first. How could I believe in it when we had modern science?
But people can come to believe, you know.
When you witness clients describing how persistent allergies eased; how a child’s recurring tonsillitis, sinusitis and ear infections became less frequent; how monthly period pain lessened; how a feverish child recovered more quickly; how recurring cold sores appeared less often; how a child who struggled to concentrate began receiving positive feedback from their teacher—and countless other stories I could share—you begin to believe. Of course, every journey is individual, and decisions about medication should only ever be made together with your doctor.
Pharmacy taught me to study, research and understand the human body, nature, plants, animals and therapeutic agents through the light of science. I am grateful to be a pharmacist and have never regretted it for a single day.
Homeopathy, meanwhile, taught me that genuine health cannot be achieved unless we consider the whole person. Through the philosophy of homeopathy, I came to understand that longevity—living a long life while ageing healthily—cannot be fully achieved in the physical body when a person’s emotional state and mental well-being are out of balance.
For me, longevity means a complete state of health. We can truly speak of longevity only when the mind, emotional state and body are all healthy together. In recent years, scientists have begun discussing the concept of “psycho-longevity”. Yet this approach has already existed for centuries within the philosophy of homeopathy, a tradition with a history spanning more than 200 years.
Imagine that the human body is a perfectly designed factory…
Inside this factory, there are workers, raw materials, control mechanisms, managers, cleaning staff, sales and marketing teams, lawyers, water and sewage systems, electrical systems, heating and cooling systems, and security personnel. Everything—absolutely everything—has been thoughtfully organised to produce and deliver one product to you.
That product is called a Quality Life.
But you are the true owner—the CEO—of this factory. Everything you do affects your quality of life.
First, let us each take responsibility for managing our own factory. Then, let us meet again in this series and explore what we can do to help our factories remain healthy and function well for many years. :)
See you in our Longevity series…
With love, peace and good health,
